Our Descriptive Writing

We have been learning to use voice in our writing and describing words.

Skip, Skip, Skipping!

Today we started skipping to help us with our fitness. We went to the hall and videoed ourselves skipping so that we can look back at it in 5 weeks time and see how much we have improved. When we were finished we watched the video and came up with a list of things that we need to do to be a successful skipper. We are trying to move up the matrix in our classroom, come and have a look at where we are at!

Fun Friday

On Friday we had an extra fun day because we got to dress up as something beginning

This week we were very excited because we got to make up our own stories. First we got to make a cartoon picture and then we made up an imaginative story to go with that picture.

Needs and Wants

We have been learning about the difference between what we need and what we want. This afternoon we recorded our ideas on Vocaroo.

Shapes in our Classroom

Today we all took a photo of a shape that we could see in our class at Maths time and then made it into a slide show.

What if there were NO Televisions?

These are the ideas that LC 5 came up with:

Yellow Hat - Good Points
- no movies would be able to scare you.
- you wouldn't have to see a fuzzy T.V.
- you wouldn't sit all day and watch T.V, but do other things.
- you would do more exercise and not sit in front of the T.V.
- your parents wouldn't have to stop you from watching T.V.
- you could make up new games and play them.

Black Hat - Bad Points
- you would get bored.
- if there was something important on the news you would miss it.
- you couldn't find out what the weather was.
- no games like xbox.
- you would miss your favourite TV programmes.
- no ads to sell us things.

Soft Toys

Our Soft Toys

Last week we got to bring a soft toy to our class. Tayla took a photo of us with our beautiful soft toys and we wrote a description about them. One of the groups made a photo story with their descriptions.

Autumn Leaves

Today we went for a walk around our school looking at all the Autumn leaves. When we came back we made a "Wordle" with as many adjectives and verbs we could think of to describe the leaves. We all did some descriptive writing about the leaves and some of us recorded our writing on a photostory.

Describing Ourselves

Today one of the writing groups wrote a description about themselves and then recorded it. Take a listen to these fabulous writers who tried to use similes in their writing.

Volcanic Eruptions

Today we watched a short movie clip from Suzie's World about how a volcanic eruption starts. Miss Rits helped us to write some notes and we also recorded some of our ideas on vocaroo.

Volcanoes

Today we had a special visitor come and talk to us about volcanoes. We have recorded ourselves on a voice thread to share some of the things that we learnt from the visit.

Nature

Nature or Not?

Last week we all took photos of things that we thought were nature around Riverdale School. Today we put the photos into a Circle Diagram to show which ones were nature and which ones were not nature. Our two photographers for the day (Lochie and Tyler) took photos of us doing this and we made it into a slideshow!

Our Gingerbread Man Stories

We have been learning to have a beginning, middle and end in our stories. Last week in writing we listened to an online story called "The Gingerbread Man" and then retold the story in our own words. Frosty Morning

A Very Cold Morning.....

After lots of sunny days in Palmerston North we all woke up this morning and it was freezing! We did a brainstorm of what we were feeling when we woke up this morning and then did some writing about what we did and how we felt.

Today it was a frosty morning and I wanted to stay in bed. I had to get dressed in bed because it was sooo cold.

I was freezing cold and I wanted to stay in my warm bed. I had to put on my jumper and when I went outside it was freezing cold.

In the morning it was very cold and I didn't want to get out of bed without my bed socks because my dog kept my feet warm. When I did get out of bed I shivered all the way to school.

Today it was very frosty. When I touched my bike it made my legs wobble. I could hardly hop on it and when I breathed surprisingly I breathed out smoke because it was so frosty.

Visiting Harold

On Monday we went and visited Harold and did lots of learning about "oxygen and breathing". Today we did some writing explaining what we did when we visited Harold. This week we have been getting to know each other in LC5 because we have all come from different classes. We did some fabulous writing and then made a video introducing ourselves to Miss Rits and each other. We hope you enjoy it, we sure enjoyed making it!
